5 Voice Over Roles that Will Make You Money

5 Voice Over Roles that Will Make You Money by Stephanie Ciccarelli

While there are many ways to communicate a message, the art of voice over is tops for delivering the human touch.

Over the centuries, the art of communicating with other people about a given purpose and the transmission of the spoken word, the most powerful, persuasive, and distinctly human tool in any marketers arsenal, has evolved to the degree that you don’t have to be in the same room to get a message across, even the same country for that matter.

Geographic locations and time zones afford little to no obstacle for communicating with others in a meaningful and cohesive way.

With all of the advantages this new world and new media bestows, it is very important that a message received is a message that is understood, believed and acted upon.

Much of this depends on the copy writing and voice over skills of the messengers, which brings us to five different character roles you can perform as a voice talent to get the message of your client across in a direct and effective way.

1. Instructor (formal, didactic voice over)

2. Real Person (informal voice over)

3. Spokesperson (advocate, authoritative voice over)

4. Narrator (omniscient storyteller)

5. Announcer (sets the stage and calls for action)

Let’s explore these types of character roles in detail.

1. Instructor

When teaching someone on what to do, for example, a corporate training video or children’s game, the voice over best suited for this kind of project is a straightforward, didactic and educated voice. The role of this particular voice talent is to instruct or provide information to fulfill a specific goal or purpose.

2. Real Person

Projects requiring a more casual approach often benefit from relatable, genuine voice overs. These voice overs are referred to as “Real Person” voice overs, commonly known as the “regular guy” or the “girl next door”. The character is homegrown, sensible, and friendly with a touch of familiarity and provides a more intimate interpretation that instills trust.

3. Spokesperson

A Spokesperson can be on camera or off camera depending on the medium you are using. The role of a spokesperson is generally played by a confident, charismatic person able to promote a cause, product, or service with ease and authority. A voice over of this nature needs to be driven, optimistic and assured.

4. Narrator

Storytelling is where the Narrator is most at home. Omniscient, courteous and honest, a Narrator’s job is to provide an audio landscape for a listener, briefing them on background information, posing questions, and providing solutions as they guide their audience through a program or documentary. Narrators can be male or female, and the most important factors are that they can communicate clearly and engagingly.

5. Announcer

The Announcer, often heard live at events, on commercials, promos or introducing segments for podcasts, is a product of the broadcast age, most celebrated at its height in the Golden Age of Radio and early television broadcasts. Announcers can introduce an idea and assertively make a call for action at the conclusion of a commercial advertisement or short video. One common misconception is that an announcer has to sound like an announcer from decades ago, however modern announcers act more like Narrators, and in many cases, adopt the Real Person approach.

Discovering which role suits your voice best is very important, because more often than not, you’ll be hired again and again for the same kind of role.

Why is that? Your “signature voice” is at the heart of your business. It’s what you sound like without pretending and is your greatest asset as a performer.

A professional voice over and branding coach can help you to develop your signature voice and maximize what it can do for you. Once you know where your strengths lie, you can do anything!

Make An Occupation Playing Games, Be A Video Game Tester

Make An Occupation Playing Games, Be A Video Game Tester by Sean Tan

If you think like me, then playing games is just about the most amusing thing that can be done with the computer. Well, I know that I spend almost all my non working time trying out some or the other games on my PlayStation or on my Xbox. Now think, how it would be if you could actually gain some money out of playing games? Sounds incredible, does it? Let me tell you, being a Video Game Tester is all about that!

For those of you who are uninitiated to this field, let me explain what being a Video Game Tester actually entails. There are currently several games coming in the market, what with the surfeit of game platforms available. Each one wants to do better than the other, and there is almost cutthroat competition. Add to that the necessity of being the first to come out in the market with what are called as ‘concept’ games, and you have scores of games releasing worldwide each day.

However, this sort of productivity does hamper quality. Game designers do make high end graphic games, but there could be bugs in the game. There could be places in the game where the player could just not be able to go ahead. If such a thing happens, you can very well imagine what a colossal failure the game will turn out to be. In order to prevent such problems, every designed game needs a tester, and that’s where the Video Game Tester comes in.

Video Game Tester are people common folk like you and me, who play the games from scratch, covering all possibilities, and try to find out if the game designers have bunged up anywhere. For this purpose, they can earn a hefty check at the end of each month. The above site itself promises incomes of $10 to $80 each hour just testing games, which makes game testing one of the highest paying freelance jobs around.

But there’s a catch. You cannot enter into this profession for free. Gametesterguide requires a normal registration fee of about $60 for a lifetime membership on the field. That means, once this payment is done, members will be able to test new games from their developers for as long as they wish. There are also some kind or the other of discounts always going on, and this price of $60 is often slashed to even half its value.

Most people become skeptical due to the initial upfront fee that is to be paid. This makes them baulk away and miss out on even genuine opportunities. However, one cannot be sure of anything without giving it a try. If genuine, then it is a very small investment to make in order to get a lifetime of a highly paying job.

Sean is an avid gamer who has tried out his hand at most game titles big and small over the years. Recently, he has found out a way to convert this passion of his into a profession. He is now a full fledged Video Game Tester, and is really falling in love with his life all over again. You can read some more of his reviews on his own website, available at:

Do You Have What It Takes To Work At Home?

Do You Have What It Takes To Work At Home? by Jennifer Lavoie

Working at home … it has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Many see being able to set their own hours as a dream come true.

For those who have little or no self-discipline, that dream can quickly turn into a nightmare.

There may be times when a deadline is approaching as well as your favorite sports team on television. Without the discipline to set your priorities to your work, your home business will fail.

When you make the commitment to work from home, you are telling your clients or customers that you are ready to do whatever it takes to get the job done within the promised time. If fail to do that, you are telling them that you do not care about their needs and your time is more important to you than their project.

This also rings true if your work at home option is to start a home business, an internet marketing business or a online store. You need to dedicate time and resources to make it happen … without distractions.

If there is no one around a majority of the day then there should be no distractions to keep you from getting your work done. But be careful. Those first weeks of freedom can lend more to procrastination than working. The first few days may be wasted as you get up in the mornings and think about not having to go anywhere. How nice it is that you can work whenever you feel like it .. and soon enough you find yourself not working at all and finding all kinds of busy work that keep your days full but not productive.

You might start struggling to hit deadlines and having trouble finding new projects. These are all serious danger signs for your new business venture.

Here are some tips to help you get started on the right foot.

1. While you can work in your pajamas, until you are settled into your routine of working at home, get up in the morning and get dressed for work.

2. Set a schedule. Plan to hit the office at a specified time and establish regular hours. Once acclimated to getting your work done on time, then you can play with your schedule and your dog during the day and finish your work in the evening.

3. Plan your priorities. There can be competing requests for your time so set a priority schedule and don’t let distractions like phone calls or emails pull you away from those priorities.

4. Set aside time for business housekeeping, like invoicing, returning non urgent emails or phone calls and touching base with clients. If you set the time aside to do it, it will be less tempting to interrupt a priority task for these activities.

5. Celebrate successes. Working at home can be lonely if you let it. So connect with others, go out for networking lunches and celebrate your business achievements. It will make the work more enjoyable.

In addition to discipline, another key attribute for successful work at home entrepreneurs is organization. This ensures that little details, or big jobs, are not overlooked and forgotten. Nothing worse than missing a critical meeting or deadline because you forgot about it.

Once you are organized and disciplined, be prepared to work more hours than normal. It takes time to build a successful business and get yourself established, but in the long run, the effort is worth the reward. And, the reward for you is time freedom and more disposable cash.

One final tip for you: finish all the hard projects at the beginning so if you get behind, the easy ones can be done quickly.

Deciding How To Earn Extra Income

Deciding How To Earn Extra Income by Obinna Heche

Everyone wishes they knew how to earn extra income. Even the richest would not mind having a little extra pocket cash and discretionary income and the reality is that if you want extra money, failing to win the lottery you will have to work for it. One of the hardest things about earning extra money is deciding how to do it. There are many opportunities, especially online, that offer ways for you to pick up some extra change. First, you have to decide if you want to earn extra money online or offline and then take a close look at your capabilities.

By blending your desire for extra money with what you know how to do, you can find a way to bring home more income. Online opportunities present themselves in many ways but they will all require time and effort on your part. Many believe that simply starting a website will instantly bring them vast amounts of money and all they have to do is get it up and running and let nature take its course. Unfortunately, it does not work that way. Even the best online business will require daily work and those that claim they are making tons of cash working only an hour or so each day are not being totally honest.

With the best site on the internet it takes constant nurturing to keep it in front of customers and keep it looking fresh and new. While many people visiting a traditional store want to find things in the same place every time they visit, online visitors want to believe they are looking at new items every time. They can conduct online searches to find what they want but they want to believe there is something new and different available as well.

This does not mean that everything on your site has to undergo daily changes but information that flows along with your products, to help them understand what the item is and what it does, will help them make an informed decision. Even something as simple as adding a news feed to keep your visitors updated on what is going on in the world may make a difference to your customers. If your site becomes a destination instead of an interruption it can mean increased income for you.

If you can find a news feed that offers information about the type of business you are in, it will be that much more interesting. Many sites offer extra money just for sending customers their way and referral fees can generate a lot of cash. You will want to be careful, however when choosing these sites as not all will fit into the values of your site. By hooking up with a site that goes against the morals of your visitors, it can detract from your credibility.
